Right.
The difference is not only in Javascript implementation, but mainly in the DOM implementation and his binding to Javascript.

@Sakuraba take the case of making xml http requests from java script. Its very different in case of IE and FireFox. Gwt takes care these issues.

Small correction here: JavaScript is quite consistent across browsers, CSS differences are the nightmare.
